Travel Guide to turkey
Turkey offers a combination of sun, sea, mountains and lakes. Holiday-makers can truly get away from it all. The climate from April to October is just perfect for lazing on the beach or just enjoying the general tranquillity of Turkey.

Turkey is also steeped in history and has a very rich architectural heritage. There are many examples of Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman architecture. You will only need to visit for a short time to appreciate all that Turkey has to offer. Once visited, many holiday-makers come back time and time again.

There are many national parks and nature reserves. Some sites are listed on the Ramsar list of Wetlands of International Importance. The SPON, is an independent organisation and is concerned with conserving Turkey's forests, wetlands, freshwater systems, coasts and marine life.

of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Cuisine. Most restaurants and Taverna’s serve ‘Mezze’ which is a number of small dishes served before a main meal. This could include cheese, pickles, nuts and also small vegetables and alads. ‘Raki’ is a traditional Turkish alcoholic spirit. The food in the tourist areas can be a little poor. Usually if you travel off the beaten track, then you are more likely to find a traditional Turkish restaurant.

Holiday-makers are only just beginning to realise the numerous activities that are available in Turkey. From the simplicity of bird watching or painting to the excitement of truck safaris there is plenty available. It is also not often realised that there plenty of facilities for skiing in Turkey. Slopes may not be as challenging as some European ski destinations, but it is very reasonably priced here in Turkey. The ski season is January to March but snow can often be found in October/November. Turkey also has numerous mountain ranges that are ideal for hiking and climbing.

The climate in Turkey is fairly reliable on a day to day basis. In general the springs of late have been wetter than usual, but warm water blue skies and sunshine are pretty much guaranteed. The temperatures from June until late September/ October are very warm and often reach 30 degrees.

In the markets, copper, brass, ceramics, spices and leather are popular purchases with holiday-makers. But be prepared to haggle, just try to avoid sellers who drop prices instantly.
