In Greece the fusion of images becomes more than imagery and turns into reality
The Greek people are renowned for their hospitality and generosity to foreigners, although
now days it is perhaps harder to find than it used to be. Nevertheless, Greece is still one of the few
places where you may be invited into a local's home and given a meal, or where they may wish to
take you out and treat you for a meal. Most Greeks would consider it an insult if their guests paid for the meal
Greece has a warm Mediterranean climate. In summer dry hot days are often relieved by stiff
breezes, especially in the coastal areas. Athens can be stiflingly hot, so holiday-makers should allow
time to acclimatise. The evenings can be balmy and cool. Winters tend to be mild in the south
but much colder in the North. November to March is the rainy season.
Greek food comes in many shapes, forms, and varieties to keep even the most demanding holiday-maker
satisfied. A little exploration will reveal many Tavernas catering for most tastes. Menus are
straightforward, and offer great varieties of Greek delicacies. Most restaurants and Taverna’s will be very busy
from late evening in to the small hours!
Greece is a fantastic destination for the outdoor enthusiast. 14.000 km of coastline, over 2000 islands,
mountains with peaks reaching over 2000 metres, wild rivers, incredible rock formations, (peacefully sleeping)
volcanoes, some of Europe’s longest gorges, beautiful forests, and stunning lakes create the perfect
setting for a whole range of outdoor activities. Sailing, scuba diving, windsurfing, snorkelling,
canoeing, kayaking, rafting, canyoning, mountain climbing, hiking, trekking, horse-riding, skiing…
the possibilities for active holidays in Greece are endless.
