Three miles from Merlindale is the famous Stobo Castle Health Spa which operates non-residential beauty days with a wide selection of treatments available. The Border towns of Peebles, Biggar and Melrose are within easy distance and are renowned for their attractive shops, crafts and restaurants. Edinburgh is only forty minutes by car, with many places of interest to visit including Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood House, and a wide range of museums and galleries. Edinburgh is also host to a number of attractions and spectacles throughout the year, including the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival, the Tattoo, the Fringe and the Book Festival in August and the Fireworks at New Year.

It is also an ideal area for walkers, with beautiful walks accessible straight from the back door of Merlindale. St Mary's Loch and Grey Mare's Tail Waterfall, 14 miles away, are particularly worth a visit, with wonderful scenery to admire. There are many tourist attractions within a few miles of the property which cater for all tastes, including the country house of Traquair and the Botanic Gardens at Dawyck.
