The countryside in Lot-et-Garonne offers unlimited scope for walkers and cyclists and visitors here are well placed for boating, with the Baïse, Lot-et-Garonne never far away. Details of horse riding and other activities can be found at local Tourist Offices and Syndicats d'Initiatives. From riverside fishing to overhead hang-gliding, the region caters for all tastes and ages. The area can be generally described as a series of interlocking broad valleys and hillsides generously sprinkled with ancient bastide towns and villages. Each has its own charm and repertoire of year-round leisure and sports activities. This is also an ideal place to stay and branch out from, located half-way from Bordeaux and Toulouse. A 2-hour drive takes you to the Atlantic coast at or the Pyrenees summits, while 3 hours brings you to to the Mediterranean. There’s so much to see and do in Lot-et-Garonne that the combinations of sites and activities are practically infinite, and infinitely pleasurable.
An inexhaustive review of Lot-et-Garonne’s attractions would certainly include Agen's Museum; Henri IV’s Nérac Castle; the Lot, Garonne and Baïse rivers; Bonaguil Castle; Armagnac tours; Bordeaux vineyards; Llama farms; and probably the only church to boast a stained-glass mermaid in the village fortress of Larressingle which also has a fascinating display of replica medieval war machines.
