Summer has officially begun in Bulgaria
 
The summer tourist season was officially opened in Bulgaria last week, it has emerged.

From the mountain resort of Bansko to those at the seaside in Konstantin and Elena, the country's holiday hotspots are now open for business, which may signal a good time to book a holiday home in Bulgaria.

Bansko opened the season with its traditional folklore festival Between Three Mountains, a celebration abundant in the country's cultural customs.

Meanwhile, international musicians came to the Black Sea town of Kavarna to perform to start the season on a high, with bands including Finnish group Apocalyptica taking to the stage.

In news that may be of interest to those with holiday lettings in Bulgaria, revenue from tourism for the first three months of 2008 was over 291 million euros - a 14.8 per cent increase compared to the previous year, according to the Sofia Echo.
