Ski resorts 'to invest in summer activities'

French ski resorts are to invest more in summer sports, it has emerged.

As a result of a declining amount of snow revealed by a Swiss study, Alpine towns may begin adjusting to incorporate other activities, the Telegraph reports.

Those with holiday homes to rent in France may be pleased to hear that now tourists may be travelling to the Alps all year round for both ski and golf holidays in France.

Stephen Lerendu, director of the Tourist Office at Avoriaz, commented that tennis courts, saunas and gyms are now "must-haves", while golf courses are "indispensable".

"We are adapting ski schools for the summer, with downhill biking and Nordic walking instead. We are creating green, blue, red and black pistes for cycling. It's the future," he said.

Some of the most popular ski resorts in France are Chamonix, La Plagne, Val d'Isere and Serre Chevalier.
