Self-catering holidays 'to see a comeback'

The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has suggested that there is something for everyone on such a holiday, in which travellers stay in holiday homes, ski chalets or holiday gites, for example.
A spokesperson for AITO explained that adventure travelling has increased also, which can involve diving, trekking and specialist holidays, which can work well with self-catering accommodation.
"Self-catering is something that people feel they want to do to maintain some semblance of independence on their holidays," the spokesperson said.
Furthermore, such foreign breaks can also appeal to people with younger children, the spokesperson added.
According to Kelkoo, online searches for country cottages and holiday homes increased by 21 per cent over the last year.
