Holiday villas in France 'can be cheaper than UK'

Opting to take a break in a holiday home in France could be cheaper than having a short stay at a resort in Britain, a report suggests.

According to the Times, it is possible to rent holiday villas in France for a week for less money than a three-day break at some UK destinations.

Indeed, a recent report from the Daily Mail noted that there are a number of ways holidaymakers can beat the pressure of the credit crunch - and opting for a holiday villa could be one way that money can be made to stretch further.

The newspaper noted that self-catering breaks now account for around 60 per cent of all trips abroad.

And consumers looking for a bargain can make a number of steps to save money, such as aiming to take a holiday away from peak season or flying at less popular times when fares are often cheaper.
