Holiday homes 'can help beat credit crunch'

Renting out holiday homes could be one way of beating the credit crunch, a report suggests.

Holiday lettings in France and other European destinations now account for some 60 per cent of trips abroad, a report in the Daily Mail has claimed.

And according to market research firm Mintel, growth of this sector is set to continue in the coming years, the newspaper reports, adding that holiday lettings could become a reliable source of income for some individuals.

City breaks in destinations such as Paris are increasingly popular for the holidaymakers, the report claims, adding that ski chalets are also popular, particularly ones in resorts where summer activities are also offered.

Further to this, areas where properties are relatively inexpensive - such as Bulgaria - can be good for higher income yields, the resource claims.

In related news, a recent article in the Times suggests that Britons are increasingly going to have to holiday on a budget, as a result of the credit crunch.
