Have adequate cover before travel, holidaymakers advised

Holidaymakers planning to take a driving holiday into Europe have been advised to ensure they have adequate insurance before leaving the UK.

According to AA Insurance, not only is it important to ensure a vehicle was insured on the continent but the occupants too.

Ian Crowder, spokesperson for AA Insurance said: "It's also important to have travel insurance as well because when you are travelling on the continent if you do have an accident and you are injured you might get taken to the hospital."

He advised holidaymakers to also ensure their vehicles were put through checks and tests before departure and recommended obtaining European cover saying: "Whatever happens on holiday - if your car breaks down or if you have an accident - then there will be somebody who will sort out the recovery of your vehicle"

An awareness of local driving laws was important he said, adding that motorists should remember to drive on the right side of the road.

A new law in France that requires drivers to have a warning triangle and a high-visibility security vest went into effect at the beginning of the month.ADNFCR-1687-ID-18665313-ADNFCR
