Fire in the skies over Cannes
 
Holidaymakers looking to see a true display of colour while on their travels may wish to consider a trip from their holiday villas in France to the International Fireworks Festival in Cannes.

Taking place on a number of dates across July and August, the festival sees a range of different pyrotechnic shows.

Each performance follows a musical theme and aims to tell a story through the different firework shots.

The first event took place in 1967 and since then the show has grown to become one of the world's leading pyrotechnical extravaganzas.

According to the official festival website, each performance must last for at least 25 minutes.

This year's event will see the Pyrostars from Switzerland performing on Monday July 14th, followed by Imaginaire Pur from France one week later. Pyrotechnic performers from other countries will be showcasing their skills throughout the rest of the month and into August.
