People looking for last minute villa holidays in France should look to the French Riviera for a cheap deal, it has been suggested.

St Tropez is the height of French sophistication and glamour and although it is a hotspot for celebrities and millionaires, travellers do not have to fall into these categories to enjoy the beautiful town, according to a new report in the Observer.

Visitors can bask in the sunshine on the terrace of the Sennequier cafe and watch life pass them by, or take a walk along the stunning coastline on a nature trail from the old port to the golden beaches of Pampelonne.

Here "you pass through dazzling Mediterranean landscapes and can even find a quiet public beach to swim without paying a fortune for sun loungers and umbrellas", the account attests.

Why not sample some local cuisine at Le Kikouiou, a small locale open from April to October, which is set between a fragrant pine forest and luscious vineyards?

Meanwhile, those with a penchant for golf holidays in France can choose from one of the French Riviera's 21 golf courses for a round with the Mediterranean as a backdrop.
