Bulgaria ranked in Frommers' top ten

Bulgaria has been named as one of the top ten travel destinations for 2008, it has emerged.

Pauline Frommer, daughter to the world-renowned travel writer Arthur Frommer, has ranked the country as one of the best places to visit this year, which may be good news for those with holiday lettings in Bulgaria.

The country is the only European entry for the US travel reference's budget destination guide for this year and features alongside Peru, the Dominican Republic, Mexico's Mayan Coast and Newfoundland, novinite.com reports.

Frommer comments that the country is safe and praises it for its "ancient monasteries and beautifully preserved medieval villages, along with affordable spas and Black Sea beach resorts".

According to the guide, visitors to the country - who may choose to stay in one of the holiday villas in Bulgaria - will be interested in the Valley of the Kings, with its tombs adorned with frescoes and bass reliefs.

It was announced last week that Bulgaria is to host the FIS World Cup Downhill women's slalom next year.
