Euro tunnel rail fares set to reduce with more competition

The choices of transport for holidaymakers planning to visit France in the coming years are set to increase and prices likely to reduce following news that Air France-KLM plans to launch a train service to compete with Eurostar.

According to thetravelmagazine.net, the current hard times facing airlines are also likely to create more interest when Eurostar's monopoly on the Euro Tunnel ends in 2010.

"Attitudes to air travel have already been shaped by spiralling surcharges … and a loss of confidence in the financial stability of airlines that have, in recent times, left many travellers inconveniently stranded abroad," Sharron Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net said.

"If the proposed new rail links go ahead, consumers can expect to see their rail fare reduced."

According to the Channel Tunnel, more than 212 million people have passed through its gates since it opened in May 1994.

Additionally Eurotunnel Shuttles have carried nearly 128 million people with Eurostar boasting of nearly 85 million people.ADNFCR-1687-ID-18785986-ADNFCR
